What you can work through
- Simplifying expressions and combining like terms
- Expanding brackets and factoring: common factors, difference of squares, trinomials
- Linear and quadratic problems, including the quadratic formula and completing the square
- Inequalities, with the answer written as an interval
- Exponent, radical and logarithm rules, which the precalculus problem solver builds on
- Systems of two or three linear equations
- Rational expressions: simplifying, adding, finding restrictions
How to use it
Type the problem as it is written, for example "factor x^2 - 5x + 6". Use ^ for powers and / for fractions.
Read the solution. It comes as numbered steps, each naming the rule it uses, and ends with the final answer.
If a step is unclear, ask about it in your own words, such as "explain step 2". Ask for a similar problem to try one yourself.
Worked example: factor x² − 5x + 6
Look for two numbers that multiply to 6 and add to −5. They are −2 and −3.
So x² − 5x + 6 = (x − 2)(x − 3).
Check by expanding: (x − 2)(x − 3) = x² − 3x − 2x + 6 = x² − 5x + 6. The factored form is correct.
Common mistakes
- Changing a term's sign on one side only. Whatever you do to one side, do to the other.
- Distributing a minus sign to the first term only: −(x − 3) is −x + 3.
- Cancelling terms instead of factors: (x + 6)/6 is not x + 1.
- Squaring a sum term by term: (a + b)² is a² + 2ab + b², not a² + b².
Questions students ask
Does it show every step?
Yes. Each step does one thing and says which rule it uses, so you can follow the reasoning, not only the result. The same AI Math Solver works through geometry, calculus and the rest of school math.
Can I practice after seeing a solution?
Ask for a similar problem. Try it and send your answer: it gets checked, and a wrong answer gets a hint before the full solution. For ready-made practice, try these math problems with answers.
Do I need an account?
No. You can type or dictate problems without signing in. Signing in with Google or Discord is free; it keeps your chats beyond 3 days and lets you attach a photo, PDF or Word file.
