A math calculator that shows its work
Type a problem in symbols or words and get the answer with every step. Fractions stay exact, and roots and π stay symbolic unless you ask for a decimal. For functions, try the function calculator.
Things you can type
- 3/4 + 5/6
- 15% of 240
- simplify √50
- 2^10
- derivative of x^3 sin x
- how many seconds are in a week
Worked example: 3/4 + 5/6
The least common denominator of 4 and 6 is 12.
3/4 = 9/12 and 5/6 = 10/12, so the sum is 19/12, or 1 7/12.
Common mistakes
- Ignoring the order of operations: 2 + 3 × 4 is 14, not 20.
- Adding fractions by adding numerators and denominators.
- Rounding in the middle of a calculation instead of at the end.
Questions students ask
Exact answer or decimal?
Both. The calculator gives the exact form, and a decimal when you ask or when it helps.
How is it different from a regular calculator?
It understands whole problems, word problems included, not only arithmetic, and explains each step.
Do I need an account?
No. You can type or dictate problems without signing in. Signing in with Google or Discord is free; it keeps your chats beyond 3 days and lets you attach a photo, PDF or Word file.
